1. Pre-treat with Detergent

Start by pre-treating the stain with some laundry detergent. Use a small amount of detergent, either liquid or powder – but only enough to cover spot where the insect repellent was applied. Rub detergent into the fabric gently, then let it sit for around 10 minutes.

2. Wash on a Cool Setting

Next, launder the clothing in cold water on the normal cycle. Be sure to choose a gentle detergent that won’t damage the fabric. Don’t add any bleach or fabric softener to load!

3. Rinse with White Vinegar

If the stain hasn’t come out after washing, try rinsing garment with equal parts white vinegar and water. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing it again. For heavy stains, you can also soak the garment in the solution overnight.

4. Air Dry and Check

Once you’ve washed and/or soaked the garment, hang it to air dry. You may then want to check the fabric for any remaining repellent stains. If the stain is still present, repeat these steps.
