Steps for Removing Insect Repellent Stains from Outdoor Furniture
- Mix warm water and liquid dish soap. Fill a small bowl with warm water, then add a few drops of liquid dish soap. Stir the mixture with a spoon until bubbles form on the surface.
- Create a paste. Mix about four tablespoons of baking soda into soapy mixture. Stir until a paste-like consistency is achieved.
- Test paste. Test the paste on a small, discreet area of the furniture, such as underneath it. Leave it on the surface for a few minutes and wipe away with a damp cloth. If the solution has no effect on stain, make a stronger paste by adding more baking soda.
- Apply the paste. Using a soft cloth, apply the paste to the stained area and rub in a circular motion. Make sure that you do not scrub too hard, as this could damage the fabric.
- Let it sit. Leave the paste on the surface for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with a damp cloth.
- Repeat as needed. If the stain remains, repeat the process until it is completely gone.
Tips for Preventing Insect Repellent Stains
- Read the instructions. Always read the instructions on the insect repellent before using it. Some products can cause staining if used incorrectly.
- Keep it away from fabrics. Try to avoid spraying insect repellent directly onto fabric surfaces. Spray it into the air and let it settle on the surfaces.
- Cover surfaces. When spraying insect repellent, cover nearby fabrics and surfaces with a cloth or towel to protect them.
- Clean up spills promptly. If you accidentally spill some insect repellent, clean it up quickly with a damp cloth.
