Removing Insect Repellent Stains from One-Piece Swimsuits

Got insect repellent on your favorite one-piece swimsuit? Don't worry, you can easily and safely remove stains following these simple steps.

What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Warm water
  • Mild soap (i.e. baby or delicate wash)
  • Soft bristle toothbrush or bathing sponge
  • Towel and clothes line
  • Optional: Stain remover

Instructions

  1. Mix two tablespoons of white vinegar with warm water in a bowl.
  2. Soak the one-piece swimsuit in the mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. Use a soft bristle toothbrush or bathing sponge to gently scrub the stained area.
  4. Rinse the swimsuit in cold water.
  5. If any traces of stain remain, rub a small amount of mild soap into the stained area and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  6. Rinse the swimsuit in cold water again.
  7. If the stain still remains, repeat steps 4 and 5.
  8. If the stain still remains, apply a stain remover according the the instructions on the package.
  9. Rinse the swimsuit one final time.
  10. Dry the swimsuit by laying it flat on a towel, or hanging it up on a clothes line.

Tips & Tricks

  • Always use cold water when rinsing the swimsuit, as hot water can set the stain.
  • Do not rub the fabric too roughly when scrubbing the stained area.
