Before you start cleaning, take a damp cloth and wipe away as much of insect repellent residue as you can. This will help cleaning process go more smoothly.
Mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water in a bowl. Dip a rag into the mixture and then wring it out so that it is damp, not wet. You want the rag to be saturated, but not dripping.
Gently rub the rag over the stained areas of the shoe. Be sure to use small circular motions in order to really get into the material of the shoe, and remove insect repellent. Take care not to use too much pressure, as this could damage the fabric.
Dip a second cloth in plain warm water and gently wipe away any remaining cleaner residue. Then take a dry cloth and make sure to dry the entire shoe. Finally, let the shoe air-dry overnight.
