Washing your muslin with regular laundry detergent is usually enough to remove insect repellent stains, but if stubborn stains remain, you may need to take additional steps. Here are some tips on how to clean insect repellent stains from muslin:

  • Start by pre-treating the stain with a mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Let the solution work into the fabric for 15 minutes, then rinse the fabric with warm water.
  • If the stain still remains, try mixing a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray stained area and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then rinse with warm water.
  • If the stain persists, try rubbing a small amount of baking soda or cornstarch into the muslin and allow it to sit for about an hour before rinsing. This should absorb the oil from the insect repellent.
  • Finally, try pre-treating the stain with a commercial spot remover designed for removing oil-based stains like insect repellents. Rinse the fabric withwarm water and then launder as usual.

By following these steps, you should be able to get your muslin free from annoying insect repellent stains. With just a bit of effort you will be able to preserve the look and feel of your favorite fabric.
