The first step is to try and lift the stain with detergent. For this, put a small amount of detergent onto a wet cloth, such as an old toothbrush, and rub it onto the stain in a circular motion. Make sure to keep area damp, and continue to rub until the stain begins to lift. Do not scrub the fabric too hard, or you may damage the fabric.
Once you have finished scrubbing the area, run the jeans through a normal rinse cycle in the washing machine, using cold water. This will help to remove any of the excess detergent from the stain.
If the stain still persists after the rinse, use a specialty stain remover on the area. Try to find a product that is designed for insect repellent removal and follow instructions on the packaging. It is important to note, however, that many products will still leave some discoloration. It is best to use products that are specifically designed for this purpose.
Once the stain remover has been applied, launder the jeans as you normally would. Make sure to separate the light and dark colored items, and use the appropriate temperature setting for the fabric. Air drying the garment is always best, as it is gentler on the fabric.
