Insect repellent can be a lifesaver when you’re outdoors and dealing with pesky mosquitoes and other bugs. Unfortunately, it can also leave stains on your Keds that are difficult to get rid of. Luckily, with a few simple steps, you can get rid of these stains and keep your shoes looking brand-new.
Before you can get to work removing the stain, you’ll need to make sure your shoes are properly prepared. Start by brushing off any excess insect repellent from the fabric. Do this gently and slowly to avoid any potential damage. Then, rinse off the area with cold water to make sure that no soap is left behind.
Once you’ve brushed off the repellent and rinsed the area, you’ll need to prepare a cleaning solution. Start by mixing one tablespoon of laundry detergent with one cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently scrub the affected area. Make sure to go slowly, using small circles and working your way outwards. After stain is gone, rinse shoe with cold water and air dry.
If the stain is still present after initial treatment, you can try a deeper cleaning method. Mix together one part white vinegar and two parts water. Apply this mixture directly to the stain and allow it to sit for up to 30 minutes. Rinse off solution with cold water, and then thoroughly scrub the area with a soft-bristled brush. Finally, rinse the shoe with cold water and air dry.
Insect repellent can leave unsightly stains on your Keds that are difficult to remove. But with a few simple steps and right cleaning supplies, you can get rid of these stains quickly and effectively without causing any damage to the fabric. Now you can have the peace of mind knowing that your shoes are back to their former glory!
