The first step to removing an insect repellent stain is to pre-treat it. Mix together a solution of ¼ cup of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of dishwashing detergent, and 1 gallon of warm water. Apply solution directly onto the stain and let sit for 15 minutes. Then, with a toothbrush, gently scrub stain until you see it start to fade away. Rinse the area with cold water and pat it dry with a clean cloth.
Now that you've pre-treated the stain, it's time to throw your joggers in the washing machine. If possible, use a gentle cycle and cold water. Add a small amount of laundry detergent, then wash for about 10 minutes. After the cycle is done, take the joggers out and check for any remaining stains. If needed, repeat Cycle 1.
If the stain is still visible after washing, you can use a soft-bristled scrubbing brush to scrub away any residue. Mix together a paste of equal parts baking soda and water and apply to the affected area. Gently scrub in circular motions for about 5 minutes. Rinse with cold water and hang to air dry.
With right treatment, insect repellent stains won't stand a chance against your joggers. Pre-treat with a vinegar and dishwashing detergent solution, then toss them in the washer. If any residue remains, gently scrub with baking soda and warm water. Your joggers will look good as new in no time!
