Getting rid of insect repellent stains doesn’t have to be a daunting task. You can use household items or a few special products to restore your bag back to its original condition.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl and apply the solution to the stain. Use a car-washing brush with soft bristles to churn the solution around the stain, then allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
If the vinegar cleaning solution doesn’t remove the stain, add a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent to a bowl of warm water and create a foam. Apply the foam to the stain and use a washcloth to rub in a circular motion. Rinse with cold water and let air dry.
If the other methods don’t seem to work or your stained area is too large, you may want to invest in a specialty product. There are several products that claim to effectively remove insect repellent stains from handbags on the market. Be sure to read labels carefully and follow the instructions provided by manufacturer.
Keep your handbag looking like new by taking preventative measures. To avoid staining your bag and other fabrics, apply insect repellent to your skin only, not to clothing and accessories. Additionally, keep insect repellent stored away from other items in sealed containers or bags when not in use.
