The most important part of cleaning an insect repellent stain from your hair ties is to act quickly. If the stain has been sitting for too long, it may have already started to set in. Don’t worry, though; these steps will help you get rid of it in a jiffy.
Take a cotton swab and soak it in rubbing alcohol. Gently rub the stained area until the material of your hair ties starts to lighten. Be sure to avoid forceful scrubbing — this could cause the stain to bleed further into the material instead of removing it.
Once the rubbing alcohol has helped to lighten the stain, it’s time to take a household cleaner. Spray the cleaner onto a cloth or sponge and blot stain, starting from outside edge towards the center. This will help to pull the stain away from the material and prevent it from spreading.
The final step is to machine wash your hair tie. Place it in the washing machine with a mild detergent and cold water. After it’s been washed, hang it out to dry and the stain should be gone.
