Using insect repellent on yourself or your child can sometimes leave residue on clothing and accessories such as bobby pins and barrettes. It's important to remove residue quickly to ensure it isn't a nuisance and doesn't stain the material of clip.

Things You Will Need

  • Mild detergent
  • Cotton swabs
  • A small bowl
  • Warm water

Step 1: Make a Soapy Solution

To start the cleaning process, you need to make a soap solution. Fill a small bowl halfway with warm water, then add a few drops of mild detergent to the water. Mix detergent into the water using a cotton swab.

Step 2: Soak the Hair Clip

Once you have mixed the solution, you will need to soak the hair clip in the soapy water. Allow the clip to sit in the solution for approximately 15 minutes, so the insect repellent can be fully dissolved.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry the Clip

After 15 minutes, use a cotton swab to gently scrub away any remaining residue. Rinse the clip thoroughly in clean, cool water and pat dry carefully with a soft cloth. The clip should now be free from any insect repellent residue.
