We all know the feeling when you've been out in the garden, or on a camping trip, and your gloves have gotten spotted with insect repellent. It's really annoying but don't worry, there are some simple ways to remove those stubborn stains.
Leather is a delicate material and should be treated with care. You'll need to use a very gentle soap, such as Castile soap or a mild leather cleaner. Dilute it with lukewarm water so you get a thin paste, then apply it gently to the stained area with a soft cloth. Rub the area in a circular motion, but be careful not to scrub too hard. Once the stain has been removed, wipe off the excess soap with another damp cloth and let it air dry.
Cotton is a tougher material than leather, so you can use a more vigorous approach to cleaning it. Soak the stained area in cold water for a few minutes before rubbing a little laundry detergent into the stained area and rinsing it off. Repeat this process until the stain is gone. If you find that the clothes are still stained after rinsing off the detergent, try soaking it in a mixture of warm water and white vinegar for 30 minutes. Rinse and repeat if needed, then machine wash the gloves along with the rest of your laundry.
To prevent future insect repellent stains, try using a protective spray on your gloves. This will help create a barrier between the fabric and the bug repellent, making it easier to clean your gloves in the future.
