When faced with an insect repellent stain on draperies or curtains, the first step is to dab the area with a warm cloth using a mild cleaning solution. To make solution, simply mix one cup of warm water and one teaspoon of dish or laundry detergent in a bowl. Once you’ve dampened the spot, gently apply some of the solution to the stained area.

Next, use a clean white cloth to blot the stain. The idea here is to lift the stain from the fabric, not rub it in. Be careful not to scrub too hard as this could cause damage to the fabric.

If the stain is still visible after dabbing with the cleaning solution, you may need to use some rubbing alcohol. Pour some rubbing alcohol onto a fresh cotton swab and use it to work the stain out of the fibers. Again, be very gentle as scrubbing too hard could weaken the fabric.

Once you finish working on the stain, rinse the area with clean water to remove any leftover cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol. You may also want to use a fan to help speed up the drying process.

Cleaning insect repellent stains from draperies and curtains doesn’t have to be a difficult task. With the right tools and knowledge, it can be done with ease and minimal effort.
