What You Will Need

  • Mild detergent or dish soap
  • Sponge
  • Toothbrush
  • Clean cloth

Steps for Removing Insect Repellent Stains from a Crop Top

  1. Create a cleaning solution by mixing a teaspoon of mild detergent or dish soap with a cup of warm water. If available, use a fabric-specific cleaning solution.
  2. Dab a damp, soft sponge in solution and lightly scrub the affected area of your crop top. Do not violently rub.
  3. If there is any residue left, use a toothbrush dipped in the cleaning solution to gently scrub it away.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and dab the area with a clean cloth to dry.

Prevention Tips

  • Wear light colors or garments that are treated with insect-repellent chemicals.
  • Apply insect repellent to exposed skin.
  • Avoid wearing perfume, cologne, or scented products when outside.
  • Avoid being outdoors during peak insect hours like dawn and dusk.
  • Stay in well-maintained areas and away from tall grass, weeds, or shrubs.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure the clothing item is pre-treated with an insect repellent designed for fabrics.
  • Stain removal products such as oxalic acid, hydrogen peroxide, or rubbing alcohol may help remove the stain but may also damage the fabric, so use with caution.
  • Always test any cleaning solution or product on an inconspicuous area of the garment first.
