Step 1: Launder the Fabric

Before attempting to remove the stain, machine wash the fabric first. It is important to get rid of the main source of the insect repellent before attempting to remove stain it has left behind.

Step 2: Prep Detergent Solution

Once the fabric has been washed, prepare a detergent solution by mixing ¼ teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with 1 cup of warm water. Don't use detergents or bleach with a harsh formula, as this might damage the fabric.

Step 3: Dampen a Clean Cloth

Dampen a clean cloth with detergent solution. Take care to ensure that the cloth is not too wet, as excessive amounts of moisture could cause the fabric to absorb the liquid and make the stain worse.

Step 4: Test Solution on Underside of Fabric

Gently dab the dampened cloth on an inconspicuous section of underside of the fabric, such as a corner or seam. This is to test the solution to make sure it is gentle enough to use on the fabric and will not damage it.

Step 5: Gently Blot Stain

Once the solution has been tested, gently blot the stained area of the fabric with the cloth. Do not rub vigorously, as this could cause the stain to become worse or spread further. Continue blotting until all traces of the insect repellent have disappeared.

Step 6: Rinse With Cool Water

Finally, rinse the stained area of fabric with cool water. Allow the fabric to air dry completely before wearing or washing again.
