When it comes to getting rid of insect repellent stains, immediate action is key! If you don’t dab the stain clean with a damp cloth before it has a chance to dry, the stains will become even more difficult to remove. When cleaning canvas, you want to take an especially gentle approach. Here's what to do:
- Step 1: Dab and blot stain with a damp cloth. Using a dampened cloth, gently dab and blot the insect repellent stain. Make sure to use a gentle motion, as rubbing the canvas too hard can lead to damage and tearing.
- Step 2: Create a mixture of dish detergent and warm water. For this, you’ll want to use a mild detergent, such as one from the baby aisle of your grocery store. Pour a few drops of detergent in a bowl and fill it up with warm water. Mix the solution together.
- Step 3: Don’t use hot water! To avoid damaging the canvas and setting in the stain, it’s best to stick to warm water only.
- Step 4: Dip a soft brush in the detergent solution. Use a soft-bristled brush to apply the solution to the stained area. Make sure to dip the brush in solution frequently in order to keep it damp. Now you’re almost done – just rub area in a gentle circular motion.
- Step 5: Rinse area with cold water. Once the stain is gone, it’s important to rinse away any soapy residue or suds. To do this, use a damp cloth and hold it under cold running water.
- Step 6: Air dry the canvas. After you’ve rinsed away all suds, it’s time to let the fabric air dry. Avoid using a towel to pat dry the area, as this can lead to streaks and patterns.
That's it! With these simple steps, your canvas should be looking as good as new. Insect repellent stains no longer have to be a nuisance, but if you find yourself having trouble, don’t hesitate to seek help from a professional.
