Insect repellents come in a variety of forms; some in aerosol cans, others as wipes. Figure out what type of repellent caused the stain, and treat it accordingly. For aerosol stains, use a spoon or cloth to scrape off the excess repellent before proceeding. For wipe-type repellents, take a damp cloth and blot away any of the residue on the fabric.
Once the stain has been removed, it's time to start treating it. First, pour a bit of liquid laundry detergent into warm water and let the clothing soak for 30 minutes. Afterwards, add the garment to a washing machine, set it to warm or hot water setting, and add your regular laundry detergent. If possible, opt for a detergent with stain-fighting properties, such as Tide Pods or OxiClean.
Once cycle is complete, check the garment to see if the stain has been completely removed. If there are still traces of the insect repellent, repeat steps two and three. When satisfied that the stain is gone, tumble dry the piece of clothing on its lowest setting. And remember, always read and follow the care instructions on garment's label to ensure optimal results!
