Before attempting to remove an insect repellent stain, use a pre-treatment spray or liquid detergent on the affected area. Gently rub the stain with a damp cloth to work the pre-treatment into the fabric. Let the pre-treatment stand for 15 minutes.
Once the pre-treatment has set, hold the stained area under cool running water and gently rub the fabric together, being sure not to rub too hard. If the stain hasn't budged, apply more pre-treatment and let it sit for another 10-15 minutes.
After the pre-treatment phase is complete, launder your Burberry item as usual, using cold water and the gentlest cycle setting possible. Most insect repellent stains will come out in the wash, but if the stain persists, proceed to the next step.
Before applying any other cleaning method, it's important to do a colorfastness test. To do so, mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to a hidden area of the garment. If the color fades or runs, proceed with caution.
If stain still lingers after laundering, grab some dish soap and a toothbrush. Gently work the soap into the stain by brushing in small circles, and then rinse the spot with cool water. Repeat until the stain lifts as much as possible.
Once the stain has been lifted as much as possible, launder item one more time to ensure it is clean. Your beloved Burberry garments will look like new again!
