Removing Stains

Start by preparing your shoes for cleaning. Dampen a cloth or paper towel with water and wipe away any excess insect repellent. This will make it easier for the cleaning solution to get into the fabric and remove the stain.

Next, create a cleaning solution of warm water and a small amount of laundry detergent. Dip a brush into the solution and gently scrub the affected areas until stain starts to come out. Be sure to use short, gentle strokes, as vigorous scrubbing could damage material of your shoes.

Once you're done scrubbing, let the cleaning solution dry on the stains. This will help dissolve the repellent and give it time to soak into the material. After an hour or two, take a fresh cloth and wipe away the cleaning solution, then allow the shoes to air dry.

Preventing Future Stains

Once you've removed the existing stains, prevent future ones by applying a protectant to bottom of your shoes. This will act as a shield between the material and any insect repellent, making it harder for the repellent to leave a mark. Simply spray the bottoms of your shoes with a protectant, let it dry, and then enjoy stain-free shoes all summer long!
