The first step in removing an insect repellent stain is to blot at it with a clean, white cloth. This will help absorb much of repellent that has been spilled onto the fabric. After blotting, examine both the front and back sides of stain to make sure you've removed as much repellent as possible.
Once you've blotted the stain, mix a mild detergent with warm water. You can create the solution in a bowl or container, or you can use the sink if it's available. Create just enough solution to cover the stained area when soaked.
Dip the stained part of your garment into mixture, using a spoon or stirring stick to keep the material submerged. Allow it to soak for several minutes, depending on how large stain is. The longer it soaks, the more effective it will be at loosening the insect repellent.
After soaking, place your garment in the washing machine and run it on a gentle cycle with cold water. If the stain persists, repeat Steps 2 and 3 before placing it in the dryer.
