Whether you’re enjoying the outdoors or doing your daily chores, you may use insect repellent to protect your skin from bug bites. Unfortunately, sometimes this can lead to messy and stubborn stains on your clothing that are difficult to remove. If you’ve got American Eagle apparel that has been soiled with insect repellent, here’s how to get it back to its pristine condition.
To begin, make sure that American Eagle clothing is totally dry. If needed, take the garment outside and hang it up to dry away from direct sunlight. Before you start working on the fabric, test an inconspicuous area of the material with a drop of detergent and water. This helps prevent any damage the cleaning product may cause. When you've checked that the clothes are safe to use, you’re ready to start.
Put a small amount of liquid detergent—not powder—onto the stain, using a toothbrush to gently scrub it in. Let the detergent sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the material with cool water. Now, use a sponge and lukewarm water to scrub the fabric until no trace of the stain remains. If needed, repeat the entire process until the stain has vanished.
Once the insect repellent has been completely removed, it’s time to put your American Eagle garment into the washer. Use cool or warm water and a delicate cycle, along with color-safe detergent. Allow the garment to air dry away from direct heat before you wear it.
