Step 1: Soak the Fabric

Immediately take off the stained apparel and hold it under cold running water to remove as much of the insect repellent as possible. After you rinse the fabric, place it in a sink filled with cold water and a mild detergent to soak for up to 30 minutes.

Step 2: Wring Out the Soaked Garment

After garment has been soaked in the soapy water, wring fabric gently to make sure all of the insect repellent stain has been removed. Avoid twisting or squeezing the garment too hard, as this can cause the fabric fibers to tear and make the damage worse.

Step 3: Launder as Normal

Once the stain has been removed, you can launder the fabric as normal. Add your preferred laundry detergent to the washing machine and select appropriate cycle and temperature based on the type of fabric the garment is made of. Once cycle is finished, check the garment for any remaining stains. If there are any, repeat steps one and two before laundering again.

Additional Tips

  • If you don’t feel comfortable tackling stain on your own, you can always take it to a professional cleaner. Make sure to let them know the insect repellent has caused the stain.
  • Avoid using bleach, as this can discolor the fabric.
  • Always read care instructions and follow them when laundering the garment.
  • Before using any insect repellent spray on your Adidas apparel, make sure to pretreat the fabric beforehand.
