The key to removing ink from shoes is to first figure out the type of material you're dealing with. Vans are usually a combination of canvas and suede, so you'll want to use different approaches for each material.
For fresh stains, start by blotting up as much of the excess ink as possible. Then, dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and carefully blot at stain. If the stain persists, mix together equal parts vinegar and water in a bowl and apply it directly to the stain using a sponge or cloth. Be sure to blot up any excess liquid, and then let the area air dry.
Ink on suede is a bit trickier since texture of the material makes it more likely for the stain to set deep. For fresh stains, begin by gently dabbing at the area with a damp cloth, being careful not to smear ink. Then, mix together a solution of 2 parts white vinegar with 1 part water and apply it to the stain with a cotton swab. Let it sit for 15 minutes before giving the area a light brushing. For older ink stains, try using shaving foam and a toothbrush. Apply the foam to the stained area, let it sit for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with a toothbrush. Wipe off any excess foam and let the area dry.
