What You'll Need

  • Detergent formulated for removing stains on dark fabrics
  • White vinegar
  • Laundry pre-treatment spray
  • Old toothbrush
  • Clean cloths

Step-by-Step

  1. As soon as possible, remove the excess ink with a clean cloth. This will make stain removal process easier.
  2. Mix an equal amount of detergent and white vinegar in a small bowl. This mixture will work as a powerful yet gentle solution for removing ink stains.
  3. Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the stain with the detergent-vinegar mixture. Make sure you don't scrub too vigorously, as this could damage the fabric.
  4. Rinse the stained area with cold water.
  5. If the stain is still present, apply a pre-treatment product to area. This will help to break down the ink molecules, making it easier to remove.
  6. Let the pre-treatment sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing again.
  7. Put the garment in the washing machine, using a detergent formulated for dark fabrics. Avoid using too much detergent or putting too many items in the machine at once—this can cause the stain to spread even further.
  8. Once wash cycle is finished, check the stained area to see if it's been removed. If it's still there, repeat the steps above until the stain is gone.

Tips & Tricks

  • Test any new cleaning product on a small area of the garment before applying it to the stain.
  • Avoid using hot water, as this might cause ink to spread even further.
  • Consider purchasing a specialty ink remover, as these products are specifically designed for removing ink stains.
  • When possible, try to avoid drying clothes that have ink stains. Heat can cause the stain to become permanent.
