What You'll Need
- Detergent formulated for removing stains on dark fabrics
- White vinegar
- Laundry pre-treatment spray
- Old toothbrush
- Clean cloths
Step-by-Step
- As soon as possible, remove the excess ink with a clean cloth. This will make stain removal process easier.
- Mix an equal amount of detergent and white vinegar in a small bowl. This mixture will work as a powerful yet gentle solution for removing ink stains.
- Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the stain with the detergent-vinegar mixture. Make sure you don't scrub too vigorously, as this could damage the fabric.
- Rinse the stained area with cold water.
- If the stain is still present, apply a pre-treatment product to area. This will help to break down the ink molecules, making it easier to remove.
- Let the pre-treatment sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing again.
- Put the garment in the washing machine, using a detergent formulated for dark fabrics. Avoid using too much detergent or putting too many items in the machine at once—this can cause the stain to spread even further.
- Once wash cycle is finished, check the stained area to see if it's been removed. If it's still there, repeat the steps above until the stain is gone.
Tips & Tricks
- Test any new cleaning product on a small area of the garment before applying it to the stain.
- Avoid using hot water, as this might cause ink to spread even further.
- Consider purchasing a specialty ink remover, as these products are specifically designed for removing ink stains.
- When possible, try to avoid drying clothes that have ink stains. Heat can cause the stain to become permanent.
