As a first step, you should always test the method you’re going to use on a small, inconspicuous area of the tie before going ahead. This ensures that the fabric won’t be damaged by the cleaning product.
Blot the affected area of the tie with rubbing alcohol or a commercial stain remover. Work from outside of stain inwards, allowing cleaning agent to penetrate the stain. Blot the tie again with cold water after the stain has been removed.
Mix a small amount of detergent with cold water and swish the solution around in the sink. Submerge the affected area of the tie in the soapy mixture and agitate it gently. Rinse the tie thoroughly and then dry it with a clean cloth or paper towels.
Stains on ties are a common problem, but with a bit of patience and the right technique you can quickly and easily remove ink stains from your neckties. Test a small area before trying any method, use rubbing alcohol or stain removers, and wash with a mild detergent and water to ensure the best result.
