What You'll Need

  • A few drops of liquid detergent
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • An old toothbrush

Steps to Remove Ink Stain from Your Tank Top

  1. Blot area . First, take a clean cloth and blot ink stained area of your tank top, using a paper towel or an old rag. Make sure not to rub, as this can spread the ink further into the fabric, making it more difficult to remove.
  2. Soak the fabric . In a basin of cold water, add a few drops of liquid detergent and soak the tank top for up to 30 minutes. This will help loosen the ink stain.
  3. Dab with rubbing alcohol . Next, take a cotton swab and dab it in some rubbing alcohol. Gently begin dabbing the swab onto the ink stained area. After a few minutes, turn cloth over and repeat the process on other side.
  4. Wash the tank top . Once the stain is removed, wash your tank top separately from the rest of your clothes. Use a mild detergent or liquid laundry detergent, and set machine on cold setting for best results.
  5. Clean with baking soda and vinegar . If the stain is still present after washing, mix two parts baking soda to one part white vinegar and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse with cold water.
  6. Scrub . Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub area to remove any remaining ink. Make sure to use small circles and be careful not to damage the fabric.
  7. Rinse . After scrubbing, make sure to rinse off the fabric with cold water.

Additional Tips

  • Always test cleaning solutions on a hidden area of fabric first to make sure it won't cause damage.
  • If the stain is still not coming off, try soaking the garment in a solution of warm water mixed with a few drops of liquid detergent.
  • For tougher stains, try a laundry pre-treatment product or a spot remover.
