Ink is extremely difficult to remove once it has set into fabric, so you'll want to act fast if you don't want that stain to stick around for long. Here are some steps you can take to help get rid of that ink stain.

Materials Needed

  • Clean white or light colored cloth or an unused toothbrush
  • Rubbing alcohol/nail polish remover
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Salt

Steps to Take

  1. Begin by scraping off the excess ink from the T-shirt with a clean white cloth or an unused toothbrush.
  2. Saturate the stained area with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Let it sit for about five minutes before attempting to blot up the stain with a clean cloth.
  3. Mix a solution of warm water and liquid laundry detergent together and apply it to the stained area. Gently agitate the fabric around the stain to help loosen it.
  4. Blot the area with a clean cloth. Repeat process as needed until the stain has been removed.
  5. If stain remains, mix together equal parts white vinegar and warm water, and then add a pinch of salt. Apply the mixture to stained area and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Once area has soaked, blot up any excess liquid and launder the T-shirt as usual.

Additional Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden area of the fabric first to ensure there is no discoloration.
  • Always work from the outside of the stain towards the center to prevent spreading.
  • Do not rub the fabric together vigorously to try to remove stain, as this can further set the stain.
  • Do not place the garment in the dryer until you are completely sure the stain has been removed, as doing so can set the stain permanently.
