What You'll Need

  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • A clean cloth or rag
  • Dishwashing liquid and warm water (optional)

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Start by gently blotting the stained area with a clean cloth or rag. This will help absorb some of ink.

Step 2: Apply Rubbing Alcohol

Next, apply some rubbing alcohol to stained area. Make sure you do this first – applying detergent or washing up liquid before applying rubbing alcohol could make the stain worse. Gently dab the alcohol onto the stained area, allowing it to soak in for about three minutes.

Step 3: Wash with Detergent

Once the rubbing alcohol has had time to work, you can wash the sweater with warm water and a mild detergent. It's best to hand wash item, as machine washing can cause the ink to spread further. To do this, fill a sink or basin with warm water, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid, and gently agitate the fabric in the water. Let it soak for a few minutes, then rinse the garment under cold water until suds are gone.

Step 4: Air Dry

Finally, lay your garment flat and allow it to air dry. Don't put it in the dryer, as the heat could set the stain.

Conclusion

With just a few simple steps and some basic household products, you can remove ink stains from your favourite sweatshirt. Just remember to act quickly and be gentle when cleaning so that you don't spread the stain further.
