Before attempting to clean a sock with an ink stain, it helps to understand what kind of material the sock is made out of. Most socks are made out of cotton, polyester, spandex, or a combination of these. Knowing the specific materials used in your sock can help you determine the best method for cleaning the ink out of it.
If your sock is made of any combination of the materials mentioned above, the most effective way of removing an ink stain is by using a color-safe bleach. Start by running the sock under cold water and then adding one capful of bleach to a sink full of warm water. Soak the sock in this solution for about 15 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Once the sock is rinsed, hang it up to dry. This should help to remove the ink stain from the sock.
If your sock is not white, use a mild detergent and warm water instead. Mix a few drops into a sink of warm water and soak the sock in the soapy solution for 20 minutes. After the soak, rinse with cold water and check to see if the stain is gone. If it's still visible, repeat the process until the stain disappears.
If ink stain is particularly stubborn, you can use a stronger product to help remove it. Start by mixing ammonia and water together in equal parts and dip the stained part of the sock in solution. Let it sit for several minutes and then rinse with cold water. If the stain is still there, you can also try rubbing a solvent or bleach directly onto the stain before washing. Just be sure to read instructions before using any of these products.
