Step 1: Place Silk Shantung in Water
Fill a sink or large bowl with cold water. Place the item of clothing in the cold water, gently agitating it for several minutes. This will help loosen the ink stain from the fabric.
Step 2: Pre-treat the Stain
Mix a mild detergent with lukewarm water in a small bowl. To the detergent and water mix, add one teaspoon of white vinegar. Using a sponge, lightly dab the mixture onto the stain, letting it sit for approximately 30 minutes.
Step 3: Launder Silk Item
For best results, use a gentle, all-natural detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Place the item separately in the washer using a cold water setting. Allow the washer to finish its cycle and then transfer the garment to a dryer set on low heat.
Step 4: Removing Stubborn Stains
For tough ink stains that remain, create a paste of 3 parts baking soda and one part water. Gently rub paste onto the stain and let it sit for 20 minutes. Once finished, rinse the area with cold water and repeat the laundering instructions outlined in step three.
Step 5: Dry Clean Only Stains
If the previous steps do not remove the stain, then it is likely a dry-clean-only piece. It is important not to attempt to machine wash any dry-clean-only pieces of clothing as this may make the stain worse. If the item of clothing is dry clean only, take it to a professional cleaner as soon as possible.
