What You'll Need

  • Mild laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • A clean white cloth

Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

When you notice an ink stain on your silk douppioni, immediately start blotting the stained area with a clean white cloth to absorb as much of ink as possible. Don't rub or scrub, as this can cause ink to spread and set into the fabric. Make sure you don't use any colored cloths, as they can transfer dye onto the fabric.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Mix together a solution of mild laundry detergent and cold water, and apply it directly to the stained area. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step 3: Apply Vinegar Solution

Mix a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts cold water, and apply the mixture directly to the stain with a clean white cloth. Let solution sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the area with cold water.

Step 4: Soak in a Solution

If stain is still present, mix a solution of one part mild laundry detergent and two parts cold water and let the fabric soak in it for 15 minutes. Rinse out the solution with cold water.

Step 5: Wash as Usual

After treating the stain, launder the item as usual, using cold water and mild detergent. Make sure the item is completely dry before wearing or storing it.
