Start by scraping off as much as possible with a spoon or butter knife. Blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel. Spray a mixture of ¼ vinegar and ¾ water onto the stains and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Next, rinse the shorts in cold water and then launder them as usual (but make sure to use cold water). If any of the stain remains, repeat the process until it's gone.
You can also try treating the stain with rubbing alcohol or hairspray — simply pour a bit onto a cotton ball and dab at the stain until it lifts.
If the stain is particularly stubborn, you might need to bring out the heavy artillery: mixing a teaspoon of laundry detergent with 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide and letting it sit for an hour before washing.
No matter what method you choose, remember that it's important to test these methods on a small inconspicuous area of the shorts first. This ensures that the fabric doesn't fade or discolor.
