The first step to cleaning ink stains off of your pillows is to determine what kind of fabric the pillowcase is made from. Ink can be removed from natural fabrics, including linen and cotton, but synthetics like polyester will require a special solvent for removal. Once you’ve determined fabric type, you can move onto the next step.

If pillow is made of a natural fabric, you can use a mixture of 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and mix it with 1 quart of warm water. Once combined, use a clean cloth to dab solution onto the stained area and then let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, rinse the area with warm water and repeat the process if necessary.

For synthetic fabrics, a specialized solvent such as rubbing alcohol or hairspray is needed to help break up the ink. Just as before, apply the chosen solvent onto the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Depending on the size and severity of stain, you may need to repeat the process several times before it is completely gone.

When the ink is finally gone, it's best to machine wash your pillowcase to help ensure that all residues of ink, detergent, and/or solvent are removed. For natural fabrics, use a normal detergent setting, and for synthetics, you may need to use a delicate cycle. It's also recommended to air dry pillowcase afterward to prevent any damage from occurring.
