Use a Clean Solution

When attempting to remove ink from fabric, always use a cleaning solution. Before starting, make sure to identify what type of fabric you're working with; some fabrics react differently to certain types of cleaning solutions. For example, the tag in your mules will indicate whether or not it's safe to use a bleach solution on the shoe.

Once you've identified the fabric type, mix equal parts hot water and liquid detergent in a bowl. To treat the stain, dip a soft-bristled brush into the solution and lightly scrub affected area. You may need to repeat this process a few times to completely remove the stain.

Rubbing Alcohol

If the stain persists after using a cleaning solution, try using rubbing alcohol instead. Soak a cotton ball or soft cloth in rubbing alcohol and gently dab at the stain until it begins to fade away. Make sure to blot stain and not rub it, as this could spread the stain further.

You may need to apply multiple layers of rubbing alcohol until the stain is gone. It's also important to note that rubbing alcohol may cause discoloration to certain fabrics, so be sure to test it on an inconspicuous area of the shoe first.

Hairspray

Sometimes the best way to get rid of ink stains is to use an unlikely product. Hairspray can be used to help remove ink from many types of fabrics. Simply spray the hairspray directly onto the stained area and let it sit for five minutes. Then take a damp sponge or cloth and scrub the area until the stain has faded away.

For stubborn stains, you can use a mixture of hairspray, detergent, and white vinegar. Simply mix equal parts of each in a bowl and then apply the mixture to the stain directly. Let it sit for an hour, then rinse with cold water and repeat as needed.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is another effective method for removing ink stains from mules. To use baking soda, mix one tablespoon of baking soda and two tablespoons of water together in a bowl. Dip a soft sponge into the solution and then gently scrub stain. Once the stain has faded away, rinse with warm water and allow the shoe to air dry.

Summary

No one likes having ink stains on their mules. But with a little bit of work, you can remove those stains easily. Start by trying a cleaning solution, and if that doesn't work, move on to rubbing alcohol, hairspray, or baking soda. With any luck, you'll be able to bring your mules back to life in no time.
