Step 1: Dilute the Stain

The first step in proper ink stain removal is dilution. Mix a solution of equal parts warm water and mild detergent and set aside.

Step 2: Blot, Don't Rub

Once you have your diluted solution, use a white cloth or paper towel to carefully blot the stained area. Make sure not to rub the fabric; this could spread the ink and make the stain worse.

Step 3: Rinse With Water

Once stain has been blotted, rinse the affected area with clear water.

Step 4: Air Dry

Allow stained area to air dry completely before repeating steps 1 - 3 if necessary.

Step 5: Treat with Stain Remover

Once the area is dry, treat it with a pre-wash stain remover like Seventh Generation’s Free & Clear Fabric Stain Remover. Follow the instructions on the bottle.

Step 6: Launder as Usual

Finally, launder your down jacket as usual. Hang it outdoors to dry. Your jacket should look good as new with no sign of the stain!
