When ink spills onto any garment, it's always a challenging situation. And when the fabric is cotton pique, the challenge is even greater. The tightly-knitted texture of pique can make it difficult for stain to come out, even when treated with a solution.

Steps for Removing an Ink Stain from Cotton Pique Fabric

  1. Mix together one quart of warm water, 1/2 teaspoon of dish detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a bowl or sink.
  2. Soak the stained area in soapy solution for approximately five minutes.
  3. Gently rub stained area with a clean, damp cloth soaked in the solution.
  4. Rinse the stained area thoroughly with cold water.
  5. Using a soft brush, apply a dab of delicate laundry detergent to the stained spot.
  6. Gently work detergent into the fabric with a damp cloth.
  7. Rinse the area with cold water to remove any remaining detergent residue.
  8. Allow the fabric to air dry.
  9. Once the garment is dry, inspect the area to check if the stain is gone. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 1-8 until the stain is removed.

Tips to Remember When Treating Cotton Pique

  • Do not rub the fabric when treating the stain as this could cause the ink to spread further into the fabric.
  • Always use gentle motions, like dabbing and blotting, when applying solution.
  • Always use cold water for rinsing; hot or warm water could cause the stain to set into the fabric.
  • Be mindful of the type of detergent you use; harsh detergents could cause additional damage and worsen the stain.
