Cotton oxfords are breathable, lightweight, and come in an array of colors, making them a popular choice for casual and dress shirts. However, if you’re not careful, these shirts can easily be stained by ink. Ink on a cotton oxford is particularly stubborn and difficult to remove because of its delicate material. Here is a step-by-step guide to safely removing ink stains from cotton oxford shirts.

Step 1: Use Rubbing Alcohol

The first step to removing ink stains is to apply rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain. Soak a cloth or cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and gently dab at the fabric. This will help to loosen the ink, making it easier to remove. Ensure to dab lightly as rubbing alcohol can cause damage to the fibers of the fabric.

Step 2: Apply Detergent

Following the application of rubbing alcohol, use a small amount of detergent mixed with warm water to gently scrub the surface of the stained area. It is important to use a mild detergent that is free from bleach and enzymes, as these types of detergents are too strong and can damage fabric. Gently scrub the fabric with a soft cloth or toothbrush to remove any remaining ink.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Once the stain is gone, rinse the fabric with cool water until the water runs clear. Hang the shirt to dry & once it is completely dry, machine wash it on a gentle cycle in cold water and hang it to air-dry again. Be sure not to put the shirt in the dryer until you are certain the stain has been removed.
