1. Gather Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have the following supplies ready:

  • White vinegar
  • Lemon juice
  • Dish-washing liquid
  • A white cloth or sponge

2. Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step is to pre-treat the stain with some white vinegar or lemon juice. For a small stain, you can use a white cloth or a sponge and use it to rub in either the vinegar or lemon juice. Make sure to press firmly, but be careful so that you don’t damage fabric of your coat.

3. Launder the Coat

Once stain has been pre-treated, it’s time to launder your coat. Throw the coat in washing machine with a mild detergent, such as dish-washing liquid. Choose a gentle cycle, and make sure the temperature of water isn’t too hot – this could damage the fabric.

4. Check the Stain

Once the cycle is complete, take the coat out of the washing machine and check stain. If it’s still there, it’s time to pre-treat it again. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if necessary.

5. Change the Water Temperature

If the stain persists after laundering, try changing the water temperature. Try both cold and warm water to see if this makes a difference.

6. Apply Detergent Directly

If none of the above methods work, you can try applying detergent directly to the stain. Use a white cloth or sponge and rub the detergent into the affected area. Be sure to rub gently so that you don’t damage the fabric of your coat.

7. Dry the Coat

Once the stain is gone, it’s time to dry your coat. Hang it up somewhere out of direct sunlight and let it air dry.
