Preparations

First, you will want to test a small area of garment for colorfastness. Pre-treat the area with a mild detergent for about 30 minutes before washing. For colored stains, you may want to consider using a product that contains enzymes to help break them down.

Detergents

For light stains, choose a mild detergent. Powder detergents work best as they are gentler on fabrics. For tough stains, use a laundry pre-treatment product containing enzymes.

Bleaches

If necessary, use a chlorine bleach or a heavy-duty oxygen bleach. If you’re using a chlorine bleach, make sure it’s diluted with water. Apply the bleach solution to the stained area and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes before washing.

Washing Machine Settings

When washing chiffon georgette, set your machine on the “delicate” cycle. Use cold water and the maximum amount of water suggested by the manufacturer. Afterward, gently press the fabric with a white towel to remove excess moisture.

Drying

To dry the fabric, lay it flat on a clean surface. Do not hang it as weight of the fabric may cause stretching. When it’s completely dry, iron it on the reverse side while the fabric is still slightly damp.

Additional Tips

Always consult the care label of your garment before attempting to clean it. Use mild products only, as harsh ones may damage the fabric. Finally, never mix cleaning products together.
