When your favorite camisole gets an ink stain, you don’t have to throw it out just yet. Here are some tips on how to clean ink stains from camisoles with cleaning supplies you can find around the house.
If the ink stain is fresh, the first step is to use a lint-free cloth to blot the excess ink off of the camisole. Don’t press too hard—you don’t want ink to spread. Once you have blotted as much of the ink off as possible, make a cleaning solution of one part white vinegar and two parts warm water. Soak a cotton ball or a rag in the solution and apply it to the stain for about 10 minutes.
Once you’ve soaked the stain with vinegar solution, you can try applying rubbing alcohol directly to the stain. Let it sit for about five minutes and then rinse with cold water.
If the stain isn’t coming out, you can try using a laundry detergent with enzymes that are designed to break down proteins and remove stains. Place a few drops of the detergent onto the ink stain and wait 10 minutes. Afterward, rinse the camisole in cold water.
If the stain persists, you can try cleaning it with a solution made up of one part water and one part ammonia. Apply the solution with a soft-bristled brush and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then rinse with cold water. Caution: Do not use this method on fabrics that contain wool or silk!
Once you’ve finished cleaning the ink stain from your camisole, make sure to lay it flat to air dry. Hanging it up to dry can cause the fabric to stretch.
Preventing ink stains from happening in the first place is the best way to protect your camisole. Always keep pens and other objects that could leak ink away from your clothing.
