Before attempting to clean the stain, remember to blot fabric with a paper towel to absorb as much of the ink as possible. This will minimize the amount of spread and prevent the stain from becoming even bigger as you work on it.
Create a solution of warm water and gentle soap. Use a mild detergent or liquid dish soap. If you are dealing with a synthetic fabric, you can also use a dollop of shampoo in the solution.
Using a cloth or sponge, gently scrub the underside of the stain by applying the solution to the stained area. Work in circles to help loosen ink stains. Take extra care that you don't apply too much pressure, as this could damage the delicate fabric.
Rinse the spot using cold water. Be sure to rinse the fabric very well in order to prevent any residue from being left behind. Change out the water often during this process.
Apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly to the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Afterward, rinse the area again.
Soak a cotton swab with white vinegar and dab at the stain. This will help to lift any lingering stains and remove the ink from the fabric.
Once you have finished removing the stain, place the gown into the washing machine and use a gentle cycle with cold water. Add a tablespoon of detergent to the machine and wash according to the garment’s care instructions.
After the cycle is finished, hang the gown to dry away from direct sunlight. Avoid use of a dryer as this could cause ink to set permanently.
