Unfortunately, getting ink out of fabrics can be a bit tricky. The best way to handle ink stains is to treat them as quickly as possible, so the ink doesn’t have a chance to settle in. Here are steps you can take to get the job done safely and effectively:
When you first notice the stain, use a cloth or paper towel to gently blot its surface. Don’t rub or scrub at the stain, as this could cause it to spread and set even deeper into the fabric. Continue blotting the stain until no more ink comes off on the absorbent material.
Once you’ve blotted the stain as much as you can, fill a sink or basin with cold water and submerge the affected area of the anorak. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes before moving onto the next step.
After anorak has soaked for at least 30 minutes, apply a laundry detergent specifically formulated for ink stains (preferably one containing enzymes) to the stained area. Apply enough to saturate the area, then let it sit for another 5-10 minutes.
After treating the ink stain with a laundry detergent, put the anorak in washing machine on cold setting and add laundry detergent as you normally would. Once the wash cycle is finished, double check anorak for any remaining ink stains before moving onto drying.
To avoid setting the ink stain, don’t put anorak in the dryer! Instead, hang it up or lay it flat to air dry. Once it’s dry, check anorak again to make sure the stain has been removed.
Cleaning ink stains from anoraks isn’t always easy, but with the right cleaning supplies and the right technique, you can keep your favorite outdoor clothing looking fresh and stain-free.
