Step 1: Test the Fabric

First things first, you will need to know what type of fabric your dress is made of. This is important because some fabrics will require more gentle treatment than others. Test a small temperature of the fabric with a little bit of cleaning method to make sure it does not damage the dress.

Step 2: Blot Stain with a Sponge

The next step is to blot the ink stain with a clean, dry sponge. Gently dab the stain, taking care not to rub or spread the ink - this will just make the stain worse. Keep dabbing until no more color comes off on the sponge.

Step 3: Apply a Stain Remover

Once you’ve blotted away as much of the stain as you can, you can apply a specific stain remover. There are a lot of different brands and varieties available, so you should read the instructions carefully before applying. Depending on the type of fabric and intensity of the stain, you may want to use a heavier-duty remover.

Step 4: Rinse and Wash

Once you’ve applied the remover, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water. Then, add a mild detergent to the area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Finally, wash the dress as usual in a washing machine or by hand. Be sure to follow the laundering instructions on the label.

Step 5: Repeat if Necessary

If the ink stain still persists after the initial cleaning, you may need to repeat process. If so, start with blotting away the remaining stain, and then move on to steps 3 and 4. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a few tries to get the stain out - you’ll get there in the end.
