Start the stain removal process by pre-treating the area around the hairspray stain with a pretreatment spray. Follow the instructions on the package and allow the pre-treatment to sit for a few minutes.
Rinse the dress in cold water before soaking it in a mixture of one tablespoon of liquid detergent and two cups of cool water. Allow the dress to soak for 30 minutes or longer before rinsing again with cold water.
Put the dress in the washing machine and fill drum with cold water. Use an enzymatic detergent and set the wash cycle to a delicate setting. Allow the machine to complete the cycle.
Take the dress out of the washing machine and inspect the stain's progress. Depending on the severity of the stain, you may need to repeat stain removal process. If it is still visible, start with the pre-treatment again.
For optimal results, hang dry your wrap dress or lay it flat on a towel. Do not dry it in the dryer as this can set the stain, making it nearly impossible to remove.
It is better to avoid hairspray stains altogether. Consider wearing a scarf or shawl over your wrap dress when applying hairspray and always keep a distance of several feet between the item and the aerosol can.
