If the hairspray is still wet, immediately take a clean towel or cloth and blot up as much of the product as possible. Be sure not to rub, as this may push the hairspray farther into the fabric, causing it to set in further.
Using a soft bristled brush and warm, soapy water, spot clean the stain. Work the soap into lather and gently scrub the area, being careful not to damage the delicate velvet fibers. Rinse the area with a damp cloth, and then pat dry with a clean towel.
For tougher stains, mix one part rubbing alcohol with two parts cold water in a spray bottle, and spray stained area. Allow it to soak for a few minutes, and then blot with a clean towel. Rinse the area with a damp cloth, and then pat dry with a clean towel.
Continue to repeat Steps 2 through 4 until the stain is completely removed. Be sure to follow up the cleaning with a light brushing of the area with a soft bristled brush.
To help prevent hairspray stains, place a towel underneath the fabric while styling, and keep nozzle at least six inches away from the fabric while spraying. Additionally, always fully read the directions on any hairspray formulas you use to ensure that they are safe for use on fabrics.
