Before treating the stain, it’s important for you to identify what type of fabric your uniform is made of. This will allow you to choose the appropriate pre-treatment product and cleaning method to effectively remove the hairspray.
Once fabric type is identified, select the right pre-treatment solution. For cotton, polyester, and other synthetic fabrics, look for a liquid detergent specifically designed for removing oily stains. For more delicate fabrics, such as silk and wool, use a gentle detergent formulated for hand-washing items. Follow the application instructions for pre-treater and let it sit for the amount of time indicated on label.
After letting the pre-treater do its job, rinse stained area of the uniform in cold water and then launder as usual. Make sure to check that stain has been completely removed before drying.
If the stain still remains after laundering, apply a second round of pre-treatment and washing to the uniform. It may take a few attempts, but eventually hairspray stain should disappear.
