The first step towards a clean tunic is to dab at the hairspray stain with an absorbent cloth. Take care not to rub stain further into the fabric; this could cause it to spread. Continue blotting until no more hairspray residue is visible.
Once you have blotted away all of the hairspray residue, the next step is to use a stain remover specifically designed for fabrics. Before using it, be sure to read the instructions thoroughly and test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the tunic. Then, if no damage is done to the fabric, liberally apply the stain remover to the affected area and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
After pre-treating the stain, it's time to launder the garment. Be sure to choose the proper settings on your washing machine and to use a detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Once the cycle has finished and the tunic is removed from the machine, inspect the garment. If the stain is still visible, repeat step two before throwing the garment in the dryer.
If the stain has still not been eliminated after following the previous steps, it may be necessary to take the garment to a dry cleaner. The professionals there will use specialized cleaning products and methods to remove even the most stubborn of hairspray stains.
