Fortunately, removing hairspray stains from a trench coat isn't as hard as you may think. For starters, you should mix a small amount of warm water with a mild laundry detergent or rubbing alcohol. Dip an old toothbrush into the cleaning mixture and gently scrub the stained area until the stain is loosened. If necessary, use a sponge or cloth to add more of the cleaning mixture to the stained area. Be careful not to press too hard, as this could cause stain to spread onto other parts of the trench coat.
Once the stain has been removed, rinse off the cleaning mixture with cold water. Then, run trench coat through a cold-water cycle in the washing machine. Be sure to use a gentle detergent and never put a trench coat in the dryer, as this can damage the coat's fabric. Hang the coat up and allow it to air dry completely.
If the stain still won't come out after trying these methods, you may need to take your coat to a professional cleaner who can treat it with special solvents. However, this should be your last resort, as the solvents can be damaging to the trench coat fabric.
Now that you know how to get rid of hairspray stains on your trench coat, you can keep your coat looking good for years to come.
