The first step in getting rid of hairspray stains is to blot the surface with a white paper towel. Don't rub stain—that will cause it to spread. Gently press the paper towel against the stain until it has been absorbed. If the stain is still visible, repeat this step until the stain has been removed.
To remove any additional residue, mix together two parts water and one part rubbing alcohol and pour it into a spray bottle. Make sure the solution is thoroughly mixed together.
Spray the cleaning solution onto the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then, use a clean, white cloth to gently scrub the stained area. The rubbing alcohol should help break down the hairspray residue.
If the stain persists, pour white distilled vinegar onto fabric and let it soak for 20 minutes. This will help break apart proteins in hairspray.
Rinse stained area with warm water to remove any remaining traces of the hairspray.
Wash the fabric using a mild detergent. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's directions and wash the fabric with cold water.
Once you've finished washing the fabric, hang it up and allow it to air dry.
