The first step in removing hairspray from your clothing is to soak garment in cold water. Cold water helps to loosen hairspray and make it easier to remove. Fill a sink or basin with cold water and add a small amount of laundry detergent or shampoo. Submerge the garment and allow it to soak for 10-15 minutes.
Once garment has soaked, apply a stain remover directly to the stained area. Work it into the fabric with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush until the stain is loosened. Allow the stain remover to sit on the fabric for several minutes before rinsing.
Once you’ve applied the stain remover and allowed it to sit, it’s time to wash the garment. Wash the garment on the gentle cycle in cold water with a mild laundry detergent. Make sure to read the label on garment to ensure you are using the correct washing instructions.
Once the garment has been washed, it’s time to dry it. Follow the manufacturer's directions for drying and make sure to use the delicate setting on your dryer. For best results, air dry the garment on a clothesline or drying rack.
If the stain persists after washing and drying, repeat steps 2 and 3. Be patient and keep at it, and eventually the hairspray will be removed.
